POSITION: EL/MLL Lead Teacher
LOCATION: TMS
REPORTS TO: Principal of Frank E. Thompson Middle School or designee and the Director of English Learners
SCHOOL YEAR: 2026-2027

JOB DESCRIPTION: To serve as the EL Teacher Lead for Frank E. Thompson Middle School. Grades 5-8.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

• Appropriate Rhode Island teaching certificate
• A Professional or Life Professional Certificate from the Rhode Island Department of Education.
• Three (3) years of middle school teaching experience
• A minimum of five (5) years of recent classroom teaching experience within the specific curriculum
• area of responsibility
• A middle school endorsement
• Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below, as evidenced by coursework, school-level involvement, professional activities, and the interview process.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborates with the Director of English learners to create agendas and records meeting notes for Team meetings.
• Organizes and schedules activities to coordinate with the school calendar.
• Working with the curriculum leads to use data to drive instruction.
• Communicates with the Principal and Director of English Learners regularly regarding the cluster students and provides information for the purpose of MTSS or other student meetings.
• Is proactive to reach out to the admin team to bring any questions and concerns to problem solve things together.
• Performs any other duties stipulated by the Principal of Thompson Middle School/Director of English Learners
• Commits to middle school goals and mission.
• Acts as a resource person on curriculum/ELD and disseminates all relevant content area information and materials to implement state and federal requirements; Works with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
• Confers, as assigned by the principal, with high school department heads and elementary principals to ensure elementary-middle-high school curriculum articulation; Lead teacher serves as members of the
• School Improvement Team.
• Makes recommendations, when appropriate, to the principal to facilitate curriculum/ELD coordination among the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
• Plans and facilitates WIDA Screener testing for TMS.
• Plans and facilitates ACCESS testing, organizes testing materials throughout the testing window.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  9/1/2026-6/30/2027

Stipend Amount:  $ 2500.00
